Genital Herpes Signs and Symptoms

Knowing the signs and symptoms of genital herpes can help you to know if you should seek out the help of your doctor.  Although there are definite signs that you have the virus, not having signs of herpes doesn’t mean that you don’t have it!In fact, the only type that symptoms of herpes will show themselves is when you are having an outbreak, which only happens periodically, at various intervals depending on how active the virus is in your body.  Nevertheless, there are some tell tale signs of herpes to monitor yourself for.

Who Is At Risk?

If you are sexually active, you are at risk of contracting the genital herpes virus .  You are less at risk if you and your partner are monogamous, meaning that you only have sexual relations with each other, and neither of you have herpes.  In many cases, you will not know that you have herpes until your first outbreak .  This can mean that your partner has the condition and you do not realize that they do.  By far the best method of avoiding genital herpes is through abstinence or through monogamous relationships.

The Symptoms Of Herpes

The symptoms of herpes can differ from one person to the next.  First, realize that there are two types of herpes; Herpes 1 and Herpes 2.  It is a common mistake to believe that one of these types of herpes causes genital herpes and that the other causes oral herpes .  The fact is that either of them can be present in either region of your body, although HSV 1, or Herpes 1 , prefers to live in the mouth region of the body.

With that said, you could have symptoms of herpes in both the genital area of your body and the oral area.  Symptoms are found commonly in both regions especially when partners are active in oral sexual acts.  Here are some of the symptoms common with genital herpes.

  • Often, genital herpes is seen as small red bumps that form in the genital region of the body.  Many times, they are blisters that can fill with a fluid and then breaks open.  When they break open, they become open sores , or ulcers, on the skin.  These can be present on the genital itself, on the anus, as well as on the surrounding area.  These genital herpes sores can be painful.
  • Another symptom of herpes is pain and itching, both of which are commonly associated with an outbreak of herpes .  Outbreaks can occur infrequently, or ongoing, depending on the intensity of the virus in your body.

Additional symptoms of herpes include symptoms that go along with your body’s need to fight off the infection.  When an outbreak happens, the body is required to fight it off with the immune system. When it does this, you may see flu like symptoms like nausea and vomiting.  Headaches and fevers are common.  You may notice muscle aches, fatigue, and swollen lymph nodes in the groin region.  This is a sign that your body is fighting the outbreak off.

Do You Have It?

One way that people can find out if they have signs of herpes is to consider using genital herpes images found online. Genital herpes pictures can help you to know if the sores that you have on your body could be that of herpes.  It is essential to realize, though, that it could be something else.  Or, you may not have any outward symptoms of herpes at all.  Both male and female herpes symptoms are commonly found on the body, but only during outbreaks.  When the virus is in remission, hiding deep inside your body’s tissues, no symptoms or signs of the virus are present.
